Site selection and plan

We have a farm plan.  Our plan involves expanding slowly and adding a variety of enterprises to our business so we are not reliant on any one thing.  Our flagship enterprise is our veggies.  We are planning for two secondary enterprises this year and a potential third one to two years down the road.  The secondary enterprises are eggs, fruit and chickens for meat.  The egg enterprise is in the works, we are getting our hen house together now and hope to get chicks in the next couple of weeks.  The exciting news is the on the fruit front.  As mentioned in this blog post, we have already put in some haskaps and will be adding more in the coming years.  Our other fruit offerings will be apples, pears and some mix of plums, apricots and/or cherries.  We were informed of a small orchard and nursery in Gillett, WI that sells dwarfing and semi-dwarfing trees that are hardy in our northern climate.  This was very exciting news for us as we want to have small trees.  We spent some time deciding which varieties to purchase from the massive offering they have of very interesting heirloom varieties and placed our order.  They arrived a couple of days later and we put them in their new homes the next day.  In two years or so, we should be able offer you Zestar, Honeycrisp and Pink Pearl apples and Luscious pears.  Yahoo!
